Buyers asking if the seller is motivated always hope the reason for selling a property is something really serious. Like a divorce, a death in the family or a bankruptcy. Any of those reasons will make the property seller motivated.
By asking that question, a buyer can expect to hear that the property seller is indeed motivated, but wants to receive near asking price.
Often you will find underlying psychology in their answer, so they don’t have to show extreme motivation. If you don’t ask, you will never find out.

Less than motivated seller

Extremely motivated seller
- We’re broke.
- Leaving the country next week.
- We’re in a divorce.
- My husband died and I can’t afford the maintenance fees.
In some countries, homes sell in a matter of weeks. In Costa Rica, the selling of a home takes much longer than that. Sellers often do not accept low ball offers and wait until they get one close to asking price. For that reason, when shopping to buy a property, you need to ask questions to get what you want.
